City Names New Director of Raleigh Water

After a nationwide search, the City of Raleigh has selected Jim Behmer as its new Director of Raleigh Water. 
Jim Behmer is currently the Director for Salisbury-Rowan Utilities in North Carolina, where he has worked for the last two decades. Salisbury-Rowan Utilities provides water/sewer services to more than 52,000 customers within Rowan County, North Carolina, where Jim is responsible for approximately 91 employees and a $26.7 million operations budget.

“I am excited to welcome Jim to the City of Raleigh," said City Manager Marchell Adams-David. "His professional experience at the local, as well as federal level, will allow him and the Raleigh Water staff to continue the significant progress we have made in planning, developing, and constructing new systems and facilities to support the continued growth of our community.” 

An experienced Utilities Director with a demonstrated 26-year history of working in the government utility industry, Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia and a Master of Public Administration from Appalachian State University.

Raleigh Water is well known throughout the utility industry for embracing innovation and supporting and developing equitable policies and services to its customers," said Behmer. "I am honored to be able to provide vision and leadership in the management of North Carolina’s second largest water and wastewater utility in North Carolina."
Behmer will join the City of Raleigh in mid-December.
