Nicole Stewart

At-Large Council Member, Mayor Pro Tem

Mayor Pro Tem Nicole Stewart was first elected to the Raleigh City Council as an at-large member in 2017 and was re-elected in 2019. She has served as Mayor Pro Tem since January 2021. She is the chair of the Growth and Natural Resources Committee and is a member of the Transportation and Transit Committee. 
Since January 2022, Mayor Pro Tem Stewart has served as the director of engagement for the AJ Fletcher Foundation, a Raleigh-based organization that works to improve the lives and well-being of all North Carolinians by investing in local and statewide nonprofit organizations. Prior to that, she worked for 18 years at the North Carolina Conservation Network. She earned her undergraduate degree in environmental studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. 
Mayor Pro Tem Stewart has lived in Raleigh since college. She co-founded The Beehive Collective, which has given away more than $400,000 over 14 years to Raleigh-based nonprofits, funding projects that champion women and immigrants, improve access to transportation and affordable housing, and provide needed health care to Raleigh's underserved youth.
She enjoys the outdoors and exploring Raleigh’s greenways. Her husband, Les, is a small business owner and head brewer at a Raleigh-based brewery. They have two children.
